The book begins with “Notes on a Journey” where the author mentions spending a year in Greece. What she does not mention is that this was during the 2nd World War, she was a war correspondent, and much of that time she was in German custody. Cooking was a hobby/sideline to her profession as a writer and broadcaster, and she was a prolific writer of cookbooks. On offer is a 1973, previously owned, first edition, hardback with no dust jacket, in very good condition.  The author is present in many of the recipes, with lengthy intro notes. Ingredients are readily available, for the most part, and instructions are clear.  Many of the recipes include their country of origin and name in the source language. The final chapter, on beverages, is especially fun reading.

ABOUT OUR SHOP

Most of our Extra Virgin Olive Oil is from Lake Garda in Italy. Olive aren't typically grown so far north. However, the soft breezes coming from the south, across Lake Garda, get trapped by the leading edges of the Dolomite mountains and create a micro-climate. One that is ideal for growing olives!
