Doin’ the Charleston - A Gourmet’s Guide & Cook Book

Molly Heady Sillers

On offer is an October 1976, previously owned, Second Edition paperback, spiral bound book in good condition.  The author states that “the purpose of this book is to direct you to the best restaurants in the Charleston area and through the generosity and the graciousness of their owners and superb chefs, enable you to recreate at home those recipes that have made them famous.” Fifty years later, it would be fun to see how many - if any - of them are still in business! She ventures out from Charleston proper to some of the plantations as well as Folly Beach and Mt. Pleasant. The recipes seem easy to follow and have readily available ingredients: especially Chocolate Applesauce Cake, which suggests Duncan Hines as the cake mix! A wonderful addition to a collection of Southern, South Carolina or Charleston cookbooks for yourself or a friend.
